Murshidabad- Hazarduari

Writing about Murshidabad is not that easy, it may be a small township only but is full of historical architectures. You have to be interested in history in order to visit Murshidabad. Today I will write about hazarduari. ( A palace of thousand doors). I am not going into the historical intricacies of this palace as it is already available in many sites. Let me tell you about the museum and the palace itself. Though the name says a 1000 doors, in reality, all the doors are not functional. They are merely painted as doors on the wall. It takes almost 2 hours to go around the whole museum. The collection of the museum is marvelous. But the collection is not of Murshidabad alone. Things from the Mughal Empire and other era are also displayed there. The China clay potteries will get you awestruck. Furniture with unique designs is lined up for display. Famous Ivory work of Murshidabad will give you goosebumps. The ground floor is full of arms and ammunition which were used in Battle of Plassey and elsewhere. Camera and mobile phone are strictly banned inside the museum. You can deposit it in the security locker.  If you have a long weekend go for Murshidabad. You will cherish it.
